Left in the Dark

Left in the Dark explores the isolation of an inner world shaped by trauma, an experience that can create distance not only from others, but from oneself. At the time, I wanted to be heard, and painting became a way of making an experience that felt invisible to others visible. Rather than simply depicting that pain, I wanted the viewer to feel something of its frightening and isolating presence. Subtle ridges, created with impasto medium, sit beneath the paint, adding a physical texture to the monochromatic surface.
